During the movie, I had to put my basketball shoes on at least 30 times. It is a little more difficult for me to put on my shoes than for you to put on yours, because I have four legs. Kevin, who made the shoes, also played the referee in the film and is shown here helping me. I couldn't have done it without him.
It took about ten minutes to put my shoes on. In this photo, I am standing up making sure all shoes feel snug and tight. The shoes really helped me to have traction on the basketball court. You see, my paws are too slippery on a hardwood floor. I'm just about ready to perform the scene where I get fouled and have to shoot my free throws. They were the most difficult shots in the movie for me to make. It only took 6 attempts to sink two 15-foot free throws. After 4 attempts, I sank two free throws in a row and one shot was all net!
At the 1998 Academy Awards Ceremony, there was a special segment devoted to honoring animals in film. I was named as one of the "Greastest Animal Actors of all time" and received and honorary Oscar.
This photo shows the basketball gym where all of the game scenes were filmed. Out of all of places I performed and the nearly 23,000 baskets I sank in my career, this gym was the most important. I wanted to make sure that everything went well. I ended up having a better shooting percentage in this gym than any kid in the movie. The two guys in the white shirts in the right corner of the photo are the Director, Charles Martin Smith and the Director of Photography, Mike Southon. They are making sure that everything is set up just right for the upcoming scene.
